Some people start to count the climb of the Passo dello Stelvio in Spondigno (886m). However the road from Spondigno to Prato (916m) is not steep at all, only 1.3% on average, so it seems better to start counting in Prato and not in Spondigno. The first part (about 8 kilometres) is relatively easy. The real start of the Stelvio is in Ponte allo Stelvio (1125m). After Trafoi (1543m), there are regularly parts of about 10%. The steepest point is at Weisser Knott (1876m), 15%. This point is an exception, it is the only point above 12%. After one reaches the timberline, one can see the rest of the climb to the top.
